Job ResponsibilitiesShipping in Sweden is facing major changes. At Trafikverket Ferry Company, we are undergoing a transformation process towards electrification, climate adaptation, automation, and digitalization that will impact our 70 ferries, 750 employees, and 22 million passengers. Trafikverket Ferry Company aims to be at the forefront and drive development towards more sustainable and smart solutions.
According to our long-term plan, Vision 45, Trafikverket Ferry Company works to achieve carbon-neutral ferry operations by 2045. We are working on electrifying the ferries, and Vision 45 also opens up for using smart digital solutions to reach climate goals. To achieve these goals, we now need to hire a ship electrician for our new repair and maintenance team. The team will consist of ship electricians and ship technicians, based out of the duty stations in Vaxholm or Ljusterö. In the long term, standby work may become relevant.
As a ship electrician, you are responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems on board our vessels and shore facilities. The role is crucial for ensuring safe and efficient operation of both propulsion systems, navigation equipment, and other electrical consumers on board. The repair and maintenance team constitutes an important capability enhancement to efficiently conduct our traffic under all conditions.
Tasks that may be relevant in the role include:
- Troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic faults, both planned and urgent
- Maintenance work according to a set maintenance program, including inspection, measurement, and replacement of wear parts
- Installation and commissioning of electrical systems and components on board and ashore, including power supply, lighting, communication, and navigation systems
- Documenting performed work in the maintenance system
- Working in low-voltage AC/DC systems in accordance with current safety regulations
- Collaborating with others in the repair and maintenance team and the crew to coordinate repairs and minimize downtime
- Monitoring energy consumption and supporting the optimization of electrical system efficiency
- Compliance with safety and environmental regulations according to national provisions
You need to thrive in a role with significant responsibility, where you are flexible, self-reliant, and have good ability to collaborate and build relationships with both colleagues, managers, and external individuals/groups. You are goal- and solution-oriented and driven by development and continuous improvements. You have high integrity and an ethical and moral approach. You are meticulous and have high safety awareness. You are flexible and stress-resistant during urgent operational disruptions. The position also places high demands on your communication skills.
We are looking for someone who
- has electrical technical education or equivalent at upper secondary or post-secondary level, preferably with a maritime focus
- has at least two to three years of experience working as an electrician
- has knowledge of power systems, generators, control systems, frequency converters, and troubleshooting equipment
- holds a valid driver's license for a passenger car
- has good knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written
- has good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
It is meritorious if you
- have general electrical competency
- have experience with automation systems
